John “Jack” Schmuckli Waldron

John “Jack” S. Waldron, 85, passed away on December 15, 2019. He was born in Portland, Oregon at Emanuel Hospital, March 05, 1934 to Jack F. Waldron and Miriam E. Waldron (Schmuckli). Jack, a lifelong Oregonian grew up in SE Portland with his mother and father who were both career U.S. military. When Jack was 12 years old, he lived briefly with his parents in Seoul, Korea prior to the Korean War, where his love for Korean culture and its people began. After graduating from the United States Army School for Children in 1947, his family was ordered back to the United States. He then graduated in 1951 from Monterey High School, Monterey, California. Jack then enrolled at University of Portland where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955.

Upon graduation, Jack served two years in the U.S. military during the Korean War as a legal clerk for the JAG Corps at the Presidio in Monterey, CA. After being honorably discharged, Jack returned to Portland where he met his wife of 59 years. Jack Waldron married Sandra “Sandie” Lee Hunter at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Camas, WA on March 27, 1960. Later that year Jack began his illustrious 31-year career with Portland General Electric (PGE). He started out in the sales department mastering commercial lighting, HVAC and industrial electrical applications. In 1971, he was promoted as the manager of Silverton PGE district operations. While in Silverton, Jack served as president of Silverton Chamber of Commerce before being promoted to Woodburn district manager position in 1975. During his stint in Woodburn, Jack was responsible for establishing a new Woodburn PGE Service Center in 1977 and was a member of the Woodburn Rotary Club, chairman of the Business Education Committee at Woodburn High School along with its Economic Development Group and the Woodburn Chamber of Commerce. In 1978, he was promoted to the PGE corporate office in Portland to serve as the manager of Energy and Field Services. Jack spent the remainder of his career involved in many executive roles with PGE until retiring in 1991. His community service involvements in Portland included: Past President of SW Portland Rotary Club and past Board of Directors for Volunteers of America.

Jack and Sandra lived in various parts of Oregon over the years including SW Portland, Silverton, Lake Oswego, Seaside and then eventually back to Beaverton where they ultimately retired. Jack is survived by his two children; Scott S. Waldron and Susan M. Hansen (Waldron); five grandchildren; Jeffrey Waldron, Timothy Waldron, Kaitlyn Waldron, Mitchell Hansen and Myles Hansen. A private burial ceremony was held for John & Sandra at Willamette National Cemetery in SE Portland. Online condolences for the family may be posted at www.fisherfuneralhome.com.
