Todd Shafer
June 6, 1963--December 31, 2019
Todd Shafer transitioned peacefully with his wife and soul mate at his side as she sang Ramble On Rose to him. He fought a valiant fight against cancer maintaining an amazing sense of humor and selflessness. He spent his last days concerned for everyone around him.
He was born Todd Roy Shafer, first child to Kenneth John Shafer and Louise Georgia Crawford Shafer on June 6, 1963 - his maternal Grandfather’s birthday in Victorville, California.
He grew up in Corvallis where he attended schools, completing his GED in his senior year to join the US Army. The majority of his tour of duty was in Germany.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife Theresa “Tracy” Shafer who he met while working at Beckett Gas over 9 years ago in Ohio. They were married August 14, 2015 and moved to Oregon in September that year to provide assistance to his parents. He was employed by Beta Seed in Tangent, Oregon. He is survived by his sister, Annette R. Berkeley (husband Alan D. Berkeley and niece Sydney). Additionally, Todd leaves children Tara J. Shafer (significant partner Bobby Lal), Grandson Berkeley; son George E. Shafer, Granddaughter, Ember and Grandson Zeddicus; daughter Elizabeth Shafer; daughter Cassandra Shafer Damron (husband Johnny Damron); brother of the heart, Kevin Snedker; Great Uncle Melvin Ellis (wife Nita); Aunt Irene Baze, Aunt Anne Crawford and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Todd was very dedicated to his work, talented in the machine and maintenance field, and willing to take on any challenges of his employment. He was awarded Employee of the Year in 2014 at Flavorseal. Totally devoted to family and friends, he and his sister had an incredibly strong bond even though they lived far apart. He enjoyed adventuring with Tracy and family - fishing, boating, sight-seeing. He was famous for his drive by’s when Tracy wanted him to stop for the view! The couple recently purchased their first home a month prior to Todd’s diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer.
He was a huge Grateful Dead fan, and this was the reason he and Tracy met. He asked her out for the first time to listen to a friends’ band; the next week they attended a Grateful Dead cover band and have been inseparable ever since.
Todd was a gamer and loved playing World of Warcraft (WOW). He made many friends through WOW and enjoyed all aspects of it playing into the night with separated-by-color Skittles by his side. His wit and sense of humor were amazing. He made everyone he came in contact feel good.
At his request, there will be no memorial, but a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Legacy Burn Center, Portland, Oregon; or to Tracy Shafer to help with expenses.
