Ruth Leila Setchell Heagy passed on to be with the Lord on November 6, 2019, at the age of 101 years. Ruth is survived by her two sons: Ronald Charles Heagy of Tangent, Oregon, and William Clifford Heagy of Eagle River, Alaska, and her younger sister, Myrtle Hitchens of Peru, Illinois.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Carleton Heagy, her daughter, Barbara Louise Wiedmeyer, and her son, David LeRoy Heagy.
Ruth was born October 20, 1918, on a Sunday in Mendota, Illinois. She was the first born of Clifford and Ethel Setchell. She had three siblings. There were her two brothers, Floyd Setchell and William Setchell who are both deceased, as well as her younger sister, Myrtle Setchell Hitchins residing in Peru, Illinois.
Ruth married Bill Heagy on June 27, 1937 in the Methodist Church in Mendota, Illinois. She was happy to be a wife, homemaker, and a mother of her three sons and one daughter. She later worked for the school district in Ashland, Wisconsin, as the head dietician in the kitchen for 22 years. She retired in 1995. She was an active member of the First Methodist Church in Ashland, Wisconsin, where they lived and raised their family. She lived in the same house for nearly 60 years. In 2007 her sons moved her to Bend, Oregon, where she resided at Whispering Winds Retirement Home for ten years. She then lived for a while with her son David Heagy and his wife Barbara Heagy in Redmond, Oregon. Two and one-half years ago she moved to Tangent, Oregon, to reside with her son Ronald Heagy, and his wife, Betty Heagy. While there, she attended Peace Fellowship in Shedd, Oregon with Ronald and Betty.
In 2018 she had a wonderful 100 year birthday party with her family and friends at Peace Fellowship. She continued to enjoy life, family, and friends, as well as the flowers and birds in all the seasons. She loved being outdoors. She recently celebrated her 101 year birthday where she enjoyed her cake with family and friends once more.
Ruth has 17 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. She leaves a loving legacy of her Christian faith to many. The Lord surely followed her all the days of her life with mercy, goodness, and purpose. To Him be the glory.
A service will be at Peace Fellowship located at 34144 Plainview Drive in Shedd, Oregon, Saturday December 7, 2019 at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army.
