Bonnie Alyce Casper
August 7, 1932 - January 23, 2019
Bonnie Casper, 86, of Albany, passed away peacefully with her family at her side. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed. She will be remembered most for her beautiful smile, creative spirit and kind nature.
Bonnie’s story began on the family farm in Roberts, Idaho, the daughter of Herbert and Alice (Harris) Dunsmoor. She loved being outdoors, working with her father and developed a bond with the many animals on the farm. Music, writing, record making, and theatre were some of Bonnie’s favorite hobbies. She often reminisced about singing in her family’s quartet which was featured on the radio.
Bonnie found her love, Owen, in an unexpected way. Having attended a dance with one fellow, Bonnie left the dance with Owen. Their relationship bloomed into a love story which lasted 70 years. They married on July 25, 1952 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They moved to Albany, Oregon in 1955 where they raised four children. Family gatherings were frequent as each accomplishment, birthday or special occasion was cherished and celebrated.
Bonnie enjoyed cooking and was renowned for her culinary and baking skills. Family members and loved ones cherished her chocolate chip cookies, caramels and secret recipe rolls which required her loving touch to come out just right.
In retirement, Bonnie and Owen found great joy in square dancing, snow-birding and RVing across the country.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, faith was an important part of Bonnie’s life. She was an active member and served in many callings over the years.
Family was the focus of Bonnie’s life, which is a legacy she has passed on. Her children and grandchildren were her heart and joy. There is no denying she had a gift of making each one feel special and they will carry with them so many beautiful memories.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Owen; children, Linda and husband, Mike Cochenour, Tammy and husband, Dallas Scofield, Gary and wife, Tammy Casper, and Rod Casper; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clair Dunsmoor; sisters, Wrena Black and Joy Williams; and great grandson Henry O. Hansell.
There will be a 10:00a.m. service Tuesday, January 29, at the Albany Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, followed by a 2:00PM graveside at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Corvallis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Evergreen Hospice or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 SW Washington St. Albany, Or. 97321.
