Jeanne Marie LaBrasseur, 83, of Scio passed away Sunday, February 25 at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis surrounded by her family.

Jeanne was born in Manistique, Michigan to Lyle Alphonse Charron and Catherine Margaret Comstock-Charron. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Loren "Jake" James Lee LaBrasseur. Jeanne had nine children: Christine LaBrasseur, George (Yolande) LaBrasseur, Fred (Candy) LaBrasseur, Laurie LaBrasseur, Michael (Debbie) LaBrasseur, Pat (Debbie) LaBrasseur, Greg LaBrasseur (deceased 1985), Richard LaBrasseur, April (Randy) Boyington. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Siblings, Loretta Carson, Helen Hunter, and Edward Charron (deceased). Jeanne's ex-daughter-in-law, Heidi White was crucial in caring for Jeanne, as were other members of the family.

Jake and Jeanne met when he needed an accompanist for singing while they were in high school. They married soon after, he was 19, she was 17. They made their home in the Upper Peninsula until 1958 when they moved to Oregon and settled in Scio. They quickly became involved in their community and St Bernard’s church. Jeanne was an accomplished musician playing the piano and organ from a very young age. She served as the church organist for many years.

She was best known for her fabulous cooking, baking and canning skills winning numerous awards at the Oregon State Fair and was featured numerous times in local newspapers. She served in various positions for the Scio Booster Club, St Bernard’s Altar Society and Linn County Red Cross. She drove the school bus for many years while her children were in school and drove the teams to many, many athletic events.

After many years as a homemaker, she went to college and earned an associate’s degree and was hired by OreMet where she worked for 10 years. Her co-workers especially looked forward to her dishes at potlucks. She retired at 59 ½, when she and Jake purchased a winter home in San Benito, Texas. They spent their retirement years traveling between Texas and Oregon making many friends along the way. While in Texas they both sang in choruses and enjoyed square dancing and other activities.

Jeanne loved flowers and hummingbirds and her homes reflect that. She was much loved and sought after for her wisdom, counsel and practical advice. Everyone was welcome at her table and in her home. No one left a stranger. Both Jeanne and Jake are known for their generosity and loving ways, having helped countless families and friends along the way. She was the matriarch of her family with over 76 of her offspring and their spouses attending her 75th birthday celebration. She will be missed by many.

A funeral Mass will be at 2pm Friday March 2nd at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Jordan. Interment and a reception will follow. Contributions may be made to the St. Bernard’s Alter Society in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 SW Washington St., Albany, OR 97321.
