May 26, 1924 - January 20, 2018

J.T. Anderson Jr. “Tom”, 93, of Albany, finished his race and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 20, at Riverview Adult Foster Home in Tangent, Oregon.

Tom was born in Eugene, Oregon to Jason T. and Velma M. Anderson Sr. on May 26, 1924. He was the older brother to a sister, Verda (who has since passed on).

Tom's first years of life began in Harrisburg Oregon where his father was postmaster and also operated a filling station, struggling through the Great Depression era.

At 6 yrs of age he moved to Albany and attended Albany Public Schools, graduating from Albany High School in 1942. Feeling the call to serve his country, Tom joined the Army Air Corp in 1943 during WWII and served through 1946 as a communication specialist (radio mechanic) and airplane engine mechanic. His favorite plane was the P-38.

After the war and arriving home from the service, Tom volunteered his time for the Albany Fire Dept. In 1948, he began his full-time career, and committed his life to being an Albany firefighter, retiring in 1981 (33 yrs).

On Mothers day, 1952 Tom was introduced to his wife of 60 years, June Lorane Haury. After a whirlwind courtship of one year, which included flying her around in airplanes and cruising the countryside in his brand new 1952 Pontiac, they were finally married at the Triangle Lake Church on June 20, 1953.

Now a husband and firefighter, another challenge came into Tom's life. He became a father and was committed to raising 4 children, serving family and his community. He did well.

Tom loved the outdoors, and when he wasn't working, he enjoyed jogging, cross-country and downhill skiing, hiking, backpacking, fishing and camping, all with his family.

He was also involved with the Elks lodge, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, and the First Christian Church. Then after retirement Tom and June spent their time traveling with many friends on cruise ships, airplanes and RV'ing, belonging to 3 RV clubs, including the Ready Roamers. He was also involved with the American Legion, the VFW, Albany Garden Club, and Eastside Christian Church.

Tom was a devoted firefighter, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a devoted citizen to his community. He will be missed but always forever in our hearts.

Tom is survived by his children, Stephen, Robert, Phil, Lorraine and their spouses, all of Albany. 7 grandchildren,17 great grandchildren and 6 nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be from 4-6pm Monday at Fisher Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at Fisher Funeral Home in Albany on Tuesday, January 30 at 10:00am. Followed by a crypt side service at Willamette Memorial Park Mausoleum in Millersburg.

A reception will he held for family and friends at the "New" Fire Station on Lyons Street (Station 11) following the cryptside service.

In lieu of flowers, all donations may be made to Albany Fire Fighters Community Assistance Fund
