Robert “Toby” Taucher, 90, of Albany, passed away Friday at his home.

Toby was a life-long resident of Albany. He was born to Joseph and Anna (Fresken) Taucher. After graduating from Albany High School in 1944, he enlisted in the Navy. He was stationed in the Philippines during WWII. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Toby returned to Albany where he met and married his soul mate, Carol Lee. Toby started his automotive career by working at Albany Auto Parts. In 1963 Toby and Carol opened Tobys Auto Parts. They flourished until he retired in the early 2000’s. Toby loved his years at the auto parts store. His knowledge of the parts business was unsurpassed. Many came to him for automotive help. He always had an answer and a part for your vehicle. Toby never met a stranger.

He and Carol sold their business to their daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Dean George. They both preceded him in death.

Toby was an avid golfer and loved to bowl. He was a league bowler for many years and played in many golf tournaments. During his golfing days he boasted of 4 hole-in-ones. He was a life member of both the Elks Lodge and the American Legion.

Over the years Toby and Carol traveled around the world, enjoying many adventures. Over a 20 year span, they traveled to Death Valley every spring with family and friends. During their 66 years of marriage, Toby and Carol had three daughters, Dianne George who preceded in death, and Robyn Taucher of Albany and Lisa Taucher and son-in-law Michael Brown of Virginia; as well as grandson, Grady George of Albany. He is also survived by 3 nephews and 1 niece.

To Chris Leech, a very dear member of our family, who helped us every day without fail, thank you.

The family would love to give a special thank you to the outstanding young men who helped care for Toby over the past few years, especially Tim and Chance; you are awesome! Also a huge thank you to a special man, Jim Conser, who made a commitment to serve Toby communion every week.

If you wish, in lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heartland Humane Society would be much appreciated. It may be sent in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. SW, Albany, OR 97321.

And please hug someone you love today.

A private rosary will be held at Fisher Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be at 11:00am, Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
