Mary Eleanor “Honey” Heuschkel
June 5, 1921 --- August 16, 2017

Mary Heuschkel of Albany left this world to start her new life in Heaven on August 16. Mary, 96, was surrounded by her loving family as she made her journey to be with the Lord.

Mary was born June 5, 1921 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado to Emory and Ruth Hampton. She was the second of three daughters. Growing up in Glenwood Springs, she graduated high school June 3, 1939. Two days later was her 18th birthday as well as her wedding day. She married the man that would be the love of her life, John Heuschkel. Her romance with John would last nearly 41 years. She lost him in 1980. During their marriage, they were blessed with 6 children - 4 girls and 2 boys. Mary loved her big family and her grandchildren, and having her family with her was one of her greatest joys.

Mary and John started their life together on a ranch in Colorado. They moved to Silverton, Oregon in 1963 and then to Albany in 1966. Mary lived in the Albany/Lebanon communities for the remainder of her life. Mary enjoyed gardening, walking with friends, reading, and baking. Her Parkerhouse rolls are famous! She would often visit friends to offer her friendship and cheer. Traveling to see her family was always an adventure, too!

Mary has been an active member of the Albany First United Methodist Church for nearly 30 years. With her positive outlook on life and following her motto of “if you want to have a friend, you have to be a friend” she has made many special friends. Many of her friends have been made through the church and the Cedarwood neighborhood where she lived. She will be sorely missed by these many friends.

A sign of her positive outlook on life was how she ended her daily emails to family - “Hope you have a great day, I plan to!”

Mary is survived by her children, Roberta Botkin (Guy) of Parachute, Colorado; Bill Heuschkel (Gloria) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Judy Masse (Stephen) of Albany; Mary Lee Miracle of Parachute, Colorado; Carolyn Heuschkel of Albany; and Frank Heuschkel (Melinda) of West Linn, Oregon; her sister Jean Holgate of Delta, Colorado; 15 grandkids, 29 great grandkids and 2 great great grandkids.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House for the wonderful, loving, compassionate care given our Mother during her last days. God bless you all!

A viewing will be from 4 - 6 pm Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Home. A Memorial service will be at 12 pm noon on Thursday, August 24 at the Albany First United Methodist Church. A private service, for the family, will be held at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens.
