Doris Jean Bason
Doris Jean "Deej" Bason (née Canon) passed away on June 30, 2017. She was 89 years old. For the last two years she lived at The Oaks in Lebanon, Oregon, a senior living community where she loved to laugh and joke with fellow tenants.

Deej was born on May 30, 1928 in Hampton, Nebraska to Viola S. (Stoddard) and the Reverend Myrvan B. Canon. She graduated from York College, a private university in York, Nebraska, with double majors and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Drama and English. She married Richard H. "Dick" Bason Jr. on November 23, 1948 in York, Nebraska. Moving to Corvallis, Oregon in 1954, then to Albany, Oregon in 1957, where they lived and raised their family until the passing of Dick in 2009 and she moved to The Oaks in 2015.

Of her accomplishments, Deej was most proud of her children. She was a patient and supportive mother and felt her children were her most important achievement. She also was an accomplished artist in both the fine arts and the performing arts and pursued her drama degree by working with the Albany Little Theatre (now the Albany Civic Theatre). She was conscientious, tireless and dearly loved being part of the theatre where she would often perform in plays, sketch and make costumes, sketch set designs and even had the opportunity to direct one of the plays. She also enjoyed golfing and was an active member of the Women's Golf Club at the Golf Club of Oregon in Albany.

Deej is survived by her children; Trudie & Richard "Dic" Bason IV, Melanie & Jerry Wilken, Jane & Stephen Bason, Dorian & Jeff Hill, Becky Bason, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Dick, brother Robert Canon, son Michael "Mike" Bason, granddaughter Tonya (Bason) Stimson, and grandson Daniel Meyer.
