Dorieta Shumaker, 89, of Crabtree passed away on June 26, 2017 at the Mennonite Home in Albany, Oregon.

Dorieta was born on December 17, 1927 in Albany, Oregon to Floyd and Pauline (Moreland) Fisher. She was a direct descendant of Ezra Fisher, an Oregon/Willamette Valley pioneer circuit pastor who traveled the Oregon Trail with his family in 1845. Her father Floyd and Uncle Harold began the Fisher Implement John Deere dealership. She grew up on the Fisher family homestead in Millersburg and graduated from Albany High School in 1945.

Dorieta worked at various secretarial jobs in Albany before attending Linfield College for nearly two years. She quit college when a young farmer in Crabtree, Bob Shumaker, stole her heart. They were married on July 17, 1949 in Albany and settled at the family farm in Crabtree where she lived the remainder of her life. Dorieta was a traditional farmer's wife doing bookkeeping, operating farm equipment and raised their four children. While her children were young, Dorieta was the school clerk for Crabtree Elementary School for many years.

Dorieta and Bob spent many years RV'ing with friends going snowmobiling, waterskiing and various other trips with the Ready Roamers Good Sam Club of Albany. Dorieta was a life-long member of Morning Star Grange in Millersburg and a member of the Albany United Presbyterian Church. She grew up attending the White Spires Presbyterian Church of Albany where she was baptized and married.

When Bob passed in 2010 Dorieta continued to live at the farm until she became ill shortly before her death. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and was an accomplished pianist accompanying Morning Star Grange drill teams/meetings and also playing the piano for Crabtree Christian Church while her children were young.

Mother considered her greatest joy and accomplishment in life to be her children, grand-children and great-grand-children whom she loved deeply and fiercely protected. She will be greatly missed by each of them.

Dorieta is survived by her children: Mark (Kathi) of Boise, Idaho; David (Kris) of Albany; Jane (Steve) Bason of Albany; and Peggy (Steve) Schliebe of Scio; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister Janice of Eugene and brother Gene of Payette, Idaho. She is preceded in death by her husband Bob and her parents.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 6 at 1 pm at the Albany United Presbyterian Church. Private burial will be held at Willamette Memorial Park Cemetery in Millersburg.

Memorials may be made to Dogs for Deaf, Inc. or Albany United Presbyterian Church and sent in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. SW, Albany, Oregon 97322.
