Memorial for Evelyn Sandmeyer

Born on Nov. 7, 1918
Departed on Jun. 10, 2017 and resided in Albany, OR.

Evelyn Sandmeyer was placed in Evergreen Hospice in Albany due to a fall. She passed away June 10, 2017.

Evelyn was born Nov. 7, 1918 in Lebanon, Oregon to James Percy and Freida (Jakel) McTimmonds. She was a descendant of 1845 pioneers Lambert and Ann (Burns) McTimmonds who settled McTimmonds Valley in Polk County Oregon. She grew up in Lebanon, then her family moved to Albany her junior year of high school. She graduated in 1937 from Albany Union High School. After graduation she worked five years as an operator for the telephone company. In 1942 she married fellow classmate Frank Merrill. They spent their first year of marriage in Vancouver, WA where Frank worked building ships for the war. They moved back to Albany where they remained and raised four children; Jane, Daniel, Deborah, and Lisa.

As with many women of her generation who grew up during the depression and world war, she was both frugal and creative. Evelyn loved tending her vegetable and flower gardens, preserving the food she grew, sewing and trying a myriad of crafts. In the early years of her marriage she was involved in Junior Chamber of Commerce wives and the Timber Carnival. She also worked in Frank's store, Merrill's Men's Shop. Other loves in her life were golf, bowling and travel. Her offbeat humor and sense of fun will not be forgotten.

Evelyn's husband Frank died of cancer in 1991. She remarried in 1994 to John Sandmeyer of Klamath Falls, where she lived until John passed away in 2006. She returned to Albany to be near her family and resided there until her death.

Evelyn is survived by her son Dan Merrill (Jan), daughters Jane Ramsey (Reagan), Debbie Russell (Donny), and Lisa Merrill; her grandchildren Zed McGriff (Kris), Kanaan Merrill, Sarah Tuttle (Aaron), Michele McVay (Chad) and great grandchildren Colten and Mason McGriff, Tatum and Wren McVay.

She is also survived by John Sandmeyer's children Jack and Rob (Marcia) Sandmeyer, Joanne Murphy (Ron), and their many children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, brothers Roland and H.C. McTimmonds and sister Alma Wallace (Art, still living).
