Elaine Poland, 103, of Albany died Friday at the Mennonite Home. Born in Peoria to William and Mae (Park) Abraham. For the first few days of her life she had no first name. Elaine grew up in Peoria on the family farm on Abraham Drive in Peoria. Elaine was the oldest of three children, brothers to Frank and Woodrow Abraham. Elaine went to school from 1st to 12th grade at the Shedd school. Then attending school at Oregon State University taking classes in Home Economics.

She married Edward Poland in Shedd on May 10, 1935. They went to Minnesota for Edward's job in the forest service. They came home on vacation and ended up staying. They begin their journey on the Poland family farm which they called Calivale Farms located outside Shedd on the Calapooia River. Daughter Judy was born on July 27, 1938 and son David on January 29. 1942. Elaine and Edward did a lot of traveling during the off season of farming. Also during their time together, they became part of the Brownsville community when Edward bought the local insurance agency and Elaine opened an antique store. With her antique store Elaine helped start the restoration of the Moyer House in Brownsville. She was also asked to help with the refurbishing of the Linn County Museum in Brownsville. Edward passed away in 1979.

Elaine continued to live on the farm for several years. She enjoyed gardening and restoring the original Poland homestead. Then one day she called and said she had bought a condo in Albany and was moving. She lived there to the age of 103, by herself, until she moved to the Mennonite home the last 3 weeks of her life. During her time in Albany, Elaine enjoyed many things. She was part of the Priscilla club of Shedd, an antique club, she traveled to many places including Europe, China, Panama Canal. She enjoyed going for coffee at Heritage Mall where people would naturally gravitate to her and sit down and chat. The sales clerks would love to see her coming because they knew her shopping motto…If one is good, two is better and in every color available. Until she had cataract surgery in her 90's, she didn't realize how many yellow blouses/jackets she had in her closet. Elaine like to travel out to the family farm and just sit on the porch enjoying the atmosphere. She finally stopped driving around age 94 but her car remains in the garage. Even though Elaine didn't drive anymore, QVC and Home Shopping became her friends.

Elaine is survived by her daughter Judith Harrison, daughter-in-law Penny Poland (David); Grandchildren Sheryl (David) Pfeiffer, Debbie Shandy, Pali Jo Poland, Kathy (Chris) Morris; Great Grandchildren Shaylyn Shandy, Kristina Hughes, Mark Morris; and great-great grandson Isaiah Thompson (Shaylyn). Preceding her in death was husband Edward, son David Poland(2016); brothers Frank and Woodrow.

A funeral service will be at 1:30pm Saturday March 25th at the Willamette Memorial Park Mausoleum chapel.
